PCOS is one of the most common and treatable causes of infertility in women. PCOS commonly includes high androgen levels, lack of ovulation, poor egg quality, insulin resistance, and excessive weight, all of which contribute to difficulties conceiving and carrying to term. The issue of insulin resistance appears to be independent of weight, meaning that both lean and obese women with PCOS exhibit it. The majority of infertility cases due to PCOS may be preventable through modifications of diet that include consumption of fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and adequate protein, and a reduction of refined carbohydrate and high fat dairy.

Exercise is one of the most important lifestyle intervention in women with PCOS. Research shows that regular exercise supports improved androgen levels, egg quality and ovulation.
